Mishumo Matumba

My name is Mishumo "Gloria" Matumba. I am originally from Elim, Makhado, Limpopo but currently based in Johannesburg. I joined the program with the intention of gaining a deeper knowledge and understanding of the nitty-gritty of content creation. I soon discovered that the journey would be both inspiring and challenging. To my surprise, the concept of content creation is vast; I learned the importance of developing a personal brand with clarity. As a content creator, it is essential to formulate a social media strategy tailored specifically to my target audience, with the goal of fostering a community.

Additionally, I recognized the necessity of establishing content pillars to guide my efforts. My primary pillars are educational and inspirational content.

I was not aware that it would require intentional focus. That I would need to consistently engage with my audience and adapt my approach based on their feedback and preferences.

I now have a clear understanding of my core values; personal growth and unapologetically striving to be my best self without the need to downplay myself. This program was definitely worth it.

Monique McKay

, I’m Monique Wilma McKay — a 35-year-old professional nurse turned nano content
creator, micro businesswoman, and proud mentee of the EmpowHer Cohort 1. I live in Gordon’s Bay, Cape Town, and recently made the bold decision to
step away from nursing to pursue content creation full-time.

When I saw this mentorship opportunity online, I knew I had to take a chance. Since
childhood, I’ve loved taking photos and videos, and the idea of turning that joy into purpose
and income truly excited me. This program felt like divine timing — I just made the cut-off
age so delaying wasn’t an option.
The experience has been fun, nerve-wracking (those deadlines!), incredibly informative, and
so creatively fulfilling. I’ve gained valuable insight into the digital space, how to monetize my
passions, and I’ve connected with inspiring women who uplift and empower.
A huge shoutout to Sarah Banda and the entire EmpowHer team for making this possible. I
feel deeply honored to be part of this first-ever Cohort and can’t wait to see what’s nex
